  7. The following information will help you decide if you want to purchase a
  8. registered license for the 2.55 or 3.00 versions of WEB PairWare, or the
  9. card-based version of WEB 3.00.

  11. THE WEB NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION 2.55
  12. ---------------------------------------------
  13. The core of all WEBCORP local area network software is the WEB Network
  14. Operating System. Version 2.55 of WEB has been shipping since April,
  15. 1991. The primary features of WEB 2.55 are:
  16.  
  17. 1. Hardware Independence
  18.    WEB supports all network adapters that include a Novell IPX driver.
  19.    This lets you build ARCnet, Ethernet, and Token Ring networks.
  20.  
  21. 2. High Performance
  22.    First peer-to-peer network operating system to equal or exceed the
  23.    performance of most dedicated server systems.
  24.  
  25. 3. Easy to Install and Use
  26.    WEB ships on one 360K disk and installs in minutes. All network
  27.    resources can be accessed through the network W drive with standard
  28.    DOS commands and utilities.
  29.  
  30. 4. Shared Resources
  31.    Network users can share any and all programs, files, and devices
  32.    regardless of where these resources are located on the network.
  33.  
  34. 5. Security
  35.    Five levels of security control the network's access to each user's
  36.    files and devices.

  38. 6. Low Maintenance
  39.    WEB is designed to meet the needs of the workgroup for file and
  40.    device sharing. Network access to these resources is controlled by
  41.    the user who owns the resource.

  47. WHAT IS WEB PAIRWARE?

  49. The card-based version of WEB has been very successful. However, our
  50. research has shown that there are still many of you who:

  53.    Can't afford expensive network interface cards
  54.    Only want to connect two computers
  55.    Want to easily connect/disconnect your laptop to your PC
  56.    Want to try the software before you purchase a license

  58. For those of you who match one or more of these categories, WEBCORP has
  59. designed a special version of the WEB Network Operating System that
  60. works with a simple null modem serial cable. We call this special
  61. version WEB PairWare(tm).

  63. The product you have now is the "shareware" version of WEB PairWare 2.55
  64. that lets you evaluate the full power and flexibility of a true peer-to-
  65. peer local area network for up to 30 days. We've created this shareware
  66. version because we feel that, after you try it, you'll agree with us
  67. that WEB is the best workgroup LAN available today and you'll want to
  68. purchase a registered license.

  70. NOTE! While you're evaluating this product, keep in mind that its
  71. performance is limited to the speed of the serial port. Card-based
  72. versions of WEB take full advantage of the speed of the network
  73. interface cards installed in the machines.

  76. WEB PAIRWARE 2.55 SPECIFICATIONS

  78. 100% compatible with MS-DOS 3.10-5.x (3.2 not recommended).
  79. Supports PC,XT,AT 286/386/486 and 100% compatibles.
  80. Supports Dynamic Data Compression of network packets.
  81. Supports Windows 3.x in Real and Standard modes (the card-based versions
  82.    of WEB support all modes).
  83. Supports DOS SHARE for file and record locking.
  84. Supports MS-NET APIs for multiuser program hooks, disk and device
  85.    redirections, and node naming.
  86. Supports ARCnet, Ethernet, Star, Bus, Token Ring, and Token Bus
  87.    topologies.
  88. Supports large packet sizes.
  89. Supports any network interface adapter that ships with a Novell-
  90.    compatible IPX driver.
  91. Stations can be biased for peer, client, or server functionality.
  92. Station Manager can be loaded into high memory.

  95. THE WEB NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM 3.00
  96. -------------------------------------
  97. In addition to the features mentioned above under version 2.55, the
  98. PairWare and card-based versions of WEB 3.00 add the following features:

  100. 1.  Modular Design
  101.     WEB has been divided into modules that can be loaded independently
  102.     to configure peer, client, and server stations.
  103.  
  104. 2.  Support for Upper Memory Blocks
  105.     All WEB modules can be loaded in upper memory blocks, leaving all
  106.     conventional RAM available for applications.
  107.  
  108. 3.  IPX and SPX Support
  109.     IPX and SPX are fully supported so programs such as modem sharing
  110.     software and FAX servers will work with WEB. You may run Novell's
  111.     IPX or WEB's interchangably.
  112.  
  113. 4.  NetWare(tm) Connectivity
  114.     Support for Novell's NCP permits WEB stations to directly access
  115.     NetWare servers as true NetWare clients.
  116.  
  117. 5.  Network Clock
  118.     Synchronizes dates and times amoung all stations.
  119.  
  120. 6.  Multiple LPT and COM Support
  121.     Enables each station to have up to four COM (serial) and four LPT
  122.     (parallel) devices simultaneously defined for local use.

  124. 7.  Fault Tolerant Print Spooling
  125.     Unfinished spool jobs are preserved if a station goes down.
  126.  
  127. 8.  Remote Info
  128.     Remote access to a station's driver statistics.
  129.  
  130. 9.  Station Loopback
  131.     Adds the local station to the W drive so you can spool to your own
  132.     devices and include your station in a network backup of the W drive.

  134. 10. Enhanced Printing Support
  135.     Enhanced support for printing under Windows and with PostScript(tm)
  136.     as well as support for the JETstream high-speed print card.

  138. 11. Burst Mode Support
  139.     Burst mode is supported for maximum performance. This is a high-
  140.     speed method of transferring data between machines when both
  141.     machines are running WEB.

  143. 12. Enhanced Data Compression Support
  144.     Dynamic Data Compression is supported for both reads and writes.

  146. 13. Directory-Independent Operation
  147.     Permits the installation directory to be relocated.
  148.  
  149. 14. Network Password Security
  150.     A password can be assigned to prevent anyone from loading WEB.

  152. 15. Enhanced Network Install/Netsetup Programs
  153.     Permits re-installation of drivers through Netsetup. NETWORK.INI
  154.     settings may also be set from within these programs.

  156. 16. Enhanced Performance
  157.     Speed is greatly enhanced. Supports full conventional RAM allocation
  158.     for the creation of dedicated servers.
